Virginia's last great coastal escape
Tucked between the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, the Eastern Shore of Virginia offers a rare combination: genuine coastal wilderness, rich maritime heritage, and easy access from the entire Mid-Atlantic corridor. This is a region that has remained largely unspoiled; and that is precisely its appeal.

Points of Interest
Chincoteague & Assateague Islands
Chincoteague is Virginia's only resort island and one of the most beloved coastal destinations on the East Coast. The adjacent Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge encompasses more than 14,000 acres of beach, dunes, marsh, and maritime forest — and is home to the famous wild Chincoteague ponies. Assateague Island National Seashore offers pristine Atlantic beaches, surf fishing, kayaking, biking, and birding along a major stop on the Atlantic Flyway.
NASA Wallops Flight Facility
Practically in the backyard of this property, the NASA Wallops Flight Facility is one of the oldest launch ranges in the country. Rocket launches — including Antares missions resupplying the International Space Station — are visible for miles. The free Visitor Center features interactive exhibits, a Science on the Sphere theater, and an observation deck facing the launch pads. Rocket launch days draw enthusiasts from across the region.
Cape Charles
An hour south via US-13, the Victorian-era town of Cape Charles has emerged as one of the Eastern Shore's most charming destinations. Tree-lined streets, boutique dining, a wide white-sand beach on the Chesapeake Bay, craft breweries, and the acclaimed Bay Creek golf resort make it a worthy day trip or overnight. The town is accessible to the south via the iconic Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel.
Onancock & the Bay Towns
The bay-side town of Onancock, about 30 miles south, is a hub for art galleries, waterfront dining, and ferry access to Tangier Island, a remote community in the middle of the Chesapeake with its own distinct dialect and culture. The Eastern Shore's small towns reward unhurried exploration: antique shops, the Eastern Shore Railway Museum in Parksley, and the historic Ker Place in Onancock are highlights.
